Sofa Tables, first constructed in about 1790, and evolved from the Pembroke table, this drop leaf table was fashioned to sit behind a sofa (hence its name, of course), and is long and thin, with two short drop-leaves at each end, and generally two drawers in the frieze. The nicest ones have two end-supports connected by a stretcher; the single base type is much less desirable.
